This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the ProxyShard Extension published on the Chrome Web Store [https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ohlcikccaeapbfpmejhckfjjddkcflbe]. It does NOT cover the ProxyShard proxy service itself (that policy lives at proxyshard.com/privacy).
ProxyShard Extension is fully compliant with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, Best Practices and Guidelines.

What is a ProxyShard Extension?
ProxyShard Extension is a browser extension that acts as an intermediary between your Chrome browser and the Internet. ProxyShard Extension routes your network requests through an external proxy server to mask your IP address and/or to change your virtual location.
E.g., when you type a URL, ProxyShard Extension intercepts the outbound network request via Chrome browser APIs, strips down your identifying information (IP address), reroutes your request via a proxy server and relays the requested webpage data back to you. ProxyShard Extension's primary function is to preserve your anonymity while surfing the web.
The ProxyShard Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to ProxyShard servers or any third party. All settings live exclusively in your browser via chrome.storage.local.
ProxyShard Extension is not responsible for deliberate or negligent disclosure of personal data by the user while using ProxyShard Extension. E.g., if the user shares his personal data, allowing him/herself to be identified by typing in his/her credentials on the relevant online resource.
Data stored locally on your device
The following data is saved only in your browser via the standard Chrome storage API and never leaves your device, except as described under "Third-Party Services" below:
- Proxy profiles (host, port, type, username, password) — entered by you;
- Extension preferences (theme, language, IP-checker choice, toggles);
- Optional rotation history (current session only, cleared on browser restart).
Third-Party Services contacted by the extension
To detect your current public IP and geolocation when you click "Refresh" or test a proxy, the extension may call one of the following public endpoints:
- ipwho.is, ipinfo.io, freeipapi.com, ipapi.co, ip-api.com — IP / geo lookup;
- dns.google — DNS resolution of proxy hostnames you configure;
- p0f-checker.proxyshard.com — optional TCP-fingerprint analysis (toggleable).
These requests contain only your network-level public IP and standard HTTP headers.
No personal identifiers, profile names, credentials, or browsing history are processed. You can disable the p0f check entirely in Preferences.
What Permissions are being obtained and why
- proxy — required to apply your selected proxy configuration in Chrome;
- storage — required to persist your profiles locally;
- webRequest, webRequestAuthProvider — required to respond to HTTP 407 proxy authentication challenges using the credentials you saved;
- tabs — required for the optional "auto-switch by domain" feature; only the active tab's hostname is read, and never stored or transmitted;
- contextMenus — adds a right-click menu for quick profile switching;
- privacy — required to set Chrome's WebRTC IP-handling policy;
- alarms — schedules interval-based IP rotation;
- notifications — alerts you about rotation failures or duplicate IPs;
- host_permissions: <all_urls> — required so the WebRTC leak-protection content script can run on every page. No per-site data is collected.
Sale or sharing of data
We do NOT sell, share, or transfer your data. The extension has no analytics, no telemetry, and no remote logging.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and indicate the effective date. Material changes will be announced in the extension's release notes.
